GradingsHow is Improvement Measured? The standard (or grade) of a student is indicated by the award of coloured belts. Students begin with a white belt and progress through, yellow, green, progress from absolute beginner to black belt standard. After achieving black belt, students can continue to progress through the senior grades of black belt 1st Dan, 2nd Dan etc. up to 7th Dan Grand Master. The Belts of Tae-Kwon-DoTae-Kwon-Do students will be asked to wear traditional style Korean uniform (a Do-Buk) whilst training. Obviously, new students will be given the opportunity to participate in lessons without a uniform to begin with, but as uniformity is an essential element of the discipline of the art, students MUST acquire a uniform if they wish to continue training (usually after about 1-month). Uniforms for juniors cost approximately £20.00 There are 10 belts in Tae-Kwon-Do before reaching black belt standard
The colours of these belts are not arbitrary and students will need to understand the significance of each colour as they progress through their training
